Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how FungiLog handles information when you use the mobile application. FungiLog is provided by Stargazer Apps, operated by an independent developer (“Stargazer Apps,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).

Information stored on your device

FungiLog primarily works as a local field log. The following information may be stored on your device:

• mushroom observation photographs;
• species selections, AI candidate results saved with an observation, notes, habitat descriptions, dates, and custom species entries;
• coordinates and location labels you choose to attach to an observation;
• language, onboarding, disclaimer, and other application settings; and
• backup files you choose to export, including the observations and photographs contained in them.

Exported backup files are handled through your device's file or share features. You decide where and with whom they are shared. Recipients, cloud-storage providers, messaging applications, and operating-system backup services may process those files under their own policies.

Camera, photographs, and location

FungiLog may request camera or photo-library access so you can add mushroom images. It may request precise or approximate location access so you can record an observation's location. These permissions are optional and can be changed in your device settings. Location attached to an observation is stored locally unless you include it yourself in content sent or shared outside the app. FungiLog does not send observation coordinates to Gemini as part of the current AI image-analysis request.

Optional AI analysis

When you actively select “AI” analysis, FungiLog sends up to the selected observation images and an optional note through Stargazer Apps' backend infrastructure to the Google Gemini API. The purpose is to return possible candidate species and related informational output. AI output is not a definitive identification and must never be used to determine whether a mushroom is edible, toxic, or safe.

Stargazer Apps does not persist the raw AI image files or prompt text in its application database. They are processed in memory as needed to complete the request. We may retain limited operational records such as a pseudonymous installation identifier, endpoint and model used, request time, success or error status, request counts, text-length measurements, and image-byte totals. These records support authentication, subscription or quota enforcement, reliability, security, fraud prevention, and abuse response.

Google processes AI submissions under its own then-current terms and privacy documentation. Google's treatment of submitted content may depend on the Gemini service, account, billing status, region, and settings that apply at the time. We do not control Google's independent processing and do not promise that Google will never retain or use submitted content. Installation identity and network data

FungiLog creates a device-specific cryptographic key and installation identifier to authenticate requests, reduce abuse, and enforce service limits. The private key remains in secure storage on your device; the corresponding public-key information and installation identifier are registered with our backend. Like most online services, our infrastructure and service providers may process ordinary network and security data such as IP address, request timestamps, user agent or platform information, response status, and suspected-abuse signals.

Advertising

Free users may see advertising supplied by Google AdMob. Google and its advertising partners may process IP address, device or advertising identifiers, app interactions, ad impressions, approximate location inferred from network information, consent choices, and diagnostics to deliver, measure, secure, and personalize or limit advertising as permitted by your settings and applicable law. Advertising behavior may vary by region, consent status, account, and device settings. See Google's advertising information and Google Privacy Policy.

Subscriptions and purchases

Premium subscriptions are purchased through Google Play and supported by RevenueCat. Google Play handles payment processing; we do not receive or store your full payment-card number. Google and RevenueCat may process purchase identifiers, product and entitlement information, transaction status, renewal or expiration information, country or storefront, and a pseudonymous app-user or installation identifier to complete purchases, restore access, prevent fraud, and provide support. Their processing is governed by their own policies, including the Google Privacy Policy and RevenueCat Privacy Policy.

Cloudflare and other service providers

We use Cloudflare for backend hosting, request transport, security, and related infrastructure. Cloudflare may process network and operational data on our behalf or as otherwise described in the Cloudflare Privacy Policy. FungiLog's species catalog may display images hosted by third-party sources and may link to attribution or source pages. Loading an external image or opening a source link can disclose ordinary network data, including your IP address and browser or app information, to that external host.

Visits to these legal pages

These Privacy Policy and Terms pages are hosted through Cloudflare. Cloudflare may provide security, email-address protection, and Cloudflare Web Analytics on these pages. When you visit, Cloudflare may process request and page-view information such as IP address, page URL, referrer, browser or device type, approximate country or region, performance measurements, and security signals. Cloudflare may inject the analytics or email-protection code at delivery time even though it is not part of the source document. We do not use these legal pages to ask you to create an account or directly enter personal information.

How we use and disclose information

We use information to provide and secure FungiLog, authenticate installations, deliver AI analysis when requested, manage subscriptions and limits, display advertising, troubleshoot failures, comply with law, and protect users, Stargazer Apps, and others. We disclose information only as needed for these purposes to the providers described above, when you direct us to share it, in connection with a lawful business transfer, to investigate misuse or protect safety and legal rights, or when required by law.

We do not sell your personal information for money. Certain advertising disclosures may nevertheless be treated as “sharing,” “targeted advertising,” or a similar regulated activity under some privacy laws. Where required, available consent or opt-out controls may be provided through the app, your device, Google, or the relevant provider.

Retention and deletion

Local observations remain on your device until you delete them, reset the app's data, clear application storage, or uninstall the app, subject to copies in device backups or files you exported. Deleting the app does not automatically delete information independently retained by Google Play, RevenueCat, Google, Cloudflare, an advertising provider, a backup provider, or another recipient.

Operational and security records are kept only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described above, including quota administration, security investigations, legal compliance, dispute resolution, and enforcement. Provider-controlled records follow each provider's retention rules. Because FungiLog does not use a conventional personal account, locating a server-side record may require an installation identifier, purchase identifier, or other technical information.

Your choices and privacy rights

You can decline camera, photo-library, or location permission; avoid AI analysis; manage advertising choices through available consent and device controls; manage subscriptions in Google Play; delete local observations; reset local app data; and choose whether to export or share a backup.

Depending on where you live, applicable law may give you rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, or information about processing, and to complain to a competent data-protection authority. To make a request, email us using the address below. We may need enough information to verify and locate the relevant record. We cannot directly fulfill requests for data controlled solely by another provider; those requests must be sent to that provider.

International processing

Our providers may process information in Türkiye, the United States, the European Economic Area, or other countries where they operate. Those countries may have privacy laws different from those where you live. Where required, processing and transfers are subject to applicable legal safeguards.

Security

We use reasonable technical measures designed to protect information, including encrypted transport and device-backed secure storage for authentication material where supported. No storage or transmission system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Protect exported backups as they can contain photographs, notes, and precise coordinates.

Children

FungiLog is not directed to children under the age of 13, and users under the age of 13 may not use the app. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the app, providers, or legal requirements change. We will publish the revised policy at this URL and update the effective date. Where applicable law requires additional notice or consent, we will provide it.
